Typical Informal Screenings
Video. Dance. Performance
The evening centered on the question of the reciprocal reflection of the acting body in the medium of video and presented the way the two interested. Here, representation and depiction of the body and dance actions play a role as do the underlying understanding of the media. Since the early days of Media Art, the three elements of corporeality, presentation (performance) and video system are often seen as part of a joint media system.
It is a triad that has emerged as one of the underlying motifs of creative art work in media and constant new stimuli have led to it being expanded, reinterpreted and debated.
With works, among others, by Chris Ziegler (Germany), Claudia Robles (Col), Skip Sweeney (USA), Robert Zagone (USA), Peer Bode (USA)
Sound + Vision
Here, the subject was the relation of sound and image content in the medium of video, with the focus on those video works that relied on the musical and the notion of sound and listening as an integral part of their structure.
With works, among others, by Ernest Gusella (CA), Melody Owen (USA), Darrin Martin (USA)
Video in Doubt. Analog of no Return
Here, Woody Vasulka presented different artistic approaches to using the medium of video and various other media formats.
On show were older and more recent video pieces by Ralph Hocking, the founder of the Electronic Television Center (ETC), Matthew Schlanger, co-founder of the Black Hammer Institute in New York, and Benton-C Bainbridge, who likewise uses different visual media systems in his video and film works.
Almost 4 Decades of Video Art
Steina reported exclusively on her wealth of artistic experiences of recent decades and on selected works.
Eigenwelt der Apparatewelt (Intrinsic World of the World of Apparatuses)
In 1992, Steina and Woody Vasulka collaborated with David Dunn at Ars Electronica to realize the much-discussed anthology on the history of the video synthesizer "Intrinsic World of the World of Apparatuses”". In the framework of the Informal Screenings, the Vasulkas presented the newly-compiled Internet edition of this epoch-breaking exhibition project and reported on their own aesthetic experiences in using video synthezisers.
The Art of Archiving
Alongside the better-known Internet portals, the presentation here also included online archives with media art content. The central element of the event was a presentation on OASIS.
